๐กDNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) Record Resolver & Diagnostic Inspector Documentation & Guide
๐How to Use DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) Record Resolver & Diagnostic Inspector
- Enter Hostname & Select Record Type: Specify the domain name or IP address and choose the DNS record type (A, AAAA, MX, TXT, CNAME, PTR, CAA, NS, or SOA).
- Choose Anycast DoH Provider: Select from major encrypted resolvers including Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8), or Quad9 Security (9.9.9.9).
- Query & Inspect DNSSEC Validation: Execute the query via secure HTTPS, view returned IP answers with TTLs, and inspect cryptographic DNSSEC validation flags (AD bit).
โ๏ธDNS-over-HTTPS (RFC 8484) Architecture & Wire Format
DNS-over-HTTPS encapsulates traditional UDP port 53 DNS queries within TLS-encrypted HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 streams over standard port 443:
DoH enables reliable end-to-end DNS diagnostics without relying on local operating system resolver caching or ISP tampering.
๐กPractical DNS-over-HTTPS Use Cases
- Troubleshooting global DNS propagation and verification of newly configured A, AAAA, and CNAME records.
- Auditing email authentication TXT records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) across different authoritative resolvers.
- Bypassing local recursive DNS cache poisoning to inspect live upstream root server responses.
